You may be off-grid living or in the city, but you still have a grid. It may be solar-powered or electricity-driven. Your survival during this time will be all in your prepping. So instead of bugging out, follow the six simple tips outlined below:
1. Buy a Small Power Generator for Your Cell Phone
You will want to be able to communicate with your neighbors during this time. You can call them if you have a separate power source for your phone.
2. Have Candles and Matches
Candles and matches will be important for you to see anything. You will want to compile them so that you can see what you’re doing.
3. Don’t Flood Power Companies with Calls
Chances are, they are getting calls from everyone anyways. You only need to make a call if you are certain your neighbors have not already made one.
4. Keep Wood Around for a Fire
You want to be someone who has wood for a fire. You can even offer some to your neighbors if you have enough stored up.
5. Put Your Food in a Cooler with Ice
Your food will go bad if the power is out for a while. Pack up essentials like milk into your cooler and pour in all the ice that you can. You might have to settle for your powdered coffee if this is going to go on for a while.
6. Get a Clear Idea of How Long This will Go On
Once the emergency has died down, you can phone your city’s line to see how long they foresee the power being down. This will let you know how long you will have to survive in this state.
